SHERBROOKE, Que. – After a feeling out period, the Bishop's Gaiters Lacrosse squad poured in the goals en route to an 18 to 5 victory over the visiting Nipissing Lakers. The contest took place on a wet Saturday evening on Coulter Field. The two squads will face off again on Sunday at 12 Noon, once again in Lennoxville.
How it Happened:
The first quarter was a feeling out process for the two teams who stepped onto the same field for the first time ever as Nipissing joined the CULFA East in 2016. The "North Bayers" showed no effects for the seven hour bus trip as the first frame ended in a 2-2 draw.
Bishop's found their stride in the second stanza scoring four to the Lakers one for a 6-3 halftime lead. An illegal stick against the Lakers at the break gave Bishop's an early power play to start the third quarter. The Gaiters took advantage and never looked back. In all 10 goals were scored in the third quarter, eight by the hosts as they grabbed a 14-5 advantage.
The Fourth was once again all purple, however goals came at a much lesser pace. The Gaiters tallied four times while holding Nipissing off the board to make the final 18-5.
