GAITERS – GAELS CLASH ON COULTER IN CUFLA PLAYOFF ACTION

SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Bishop's University Gaiters lacrosse team (7-5) hosts the Queen's Gaels (5-7) on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. on Coulter Field in CUFLA playoff action.

Bishop's clinched their home playoff match-up with the Gaels after they solidified their third place finish in the CUFLA East, with an 18-5 and 15-12 over Nipissing (4-8) on Oct. 22 and Oct. 23 respectively.

Queen's finished fourth in the CUFLA East capping their season off with a 16-10 win over Ottawa (3-9), a make-up for a weather delayed game.

Bishop's and Queen's split their two games this season.  Bishop's took the first contest 13-11 in thrilling fashion in Kingston.  The Gaiters had five players with two goals each, Cam Bateman (Port Moody, B.C.), Taren Cook (Rothesay N.B.), Simon Winquist (Sherbrooke, Que.), Andrew Neilson (Rothesay, N.B.) and Eric Mawdsley (Innisfil, Ont.).

A week later the Gaels visited Lennoxville and played spoiler on Coulter Field beating the Gaiters 10-8.  Rhett Handley (Estevan, Sask.) led the Gaiters with five points (one goal, four assists) and Mawdsley netted three goals.

"We have to play a full eighty minutes of good solid lacrosse on Saturday," said bench boss Rob Engelken. "This week we have been focusing on the basics, sticking to our systems, having confidence in our play and executing well."

Gaiters rookie, Neilson was named Provigo Robert Lafond Athlete of the week for his performance against Nipissing.  He had three goals and three assists in the Gaiters 18-5 win over Nipissing on Saturday and had three goals and one assist in Bishop's 15-12 victory over Nipissing on Sunday.

The winner of Saturday's game will travel to Brock University for the Baggataway Cup from Nov. 4-6.
