St. Catharines, Ont. – The Bishop's University Gaiters lacrosse team lost 18-9 to the Guelph Gryphons in quarter-final action at the Baggataway Cup at Brock University on Friday night.
The first quarter was fairly even in the familiar first round match up between the Gaiters and Gryphons. Guelph got on the board early but
Cam Bateman quickly evened it up for the Gaiters.
Andrew Neilson made it 2-1 for Bishop's with seven minutes to play. Two quick points by Guelph put them up 3-2 after one period of action.
The second frame was quiet for both teams as the Gryphons netted two and
Simon Winquist netted only one for the Gaiters. Guelph had the 5-2 lead going into the half.
The Gryphons dominated the third quarter, they went unanswered until the three-minute mark of the quarter.
Joel Wright scored twice to end the quarter and mount the Gaiters come back. Guelph led 11-5 with twenty minutes to play.
Neilson had back to back goals to open the fourth frame, after Guelph returned for one, he netted another two. The Gaiters trailed 12-9 with 13 minutes to play. The comeback was not enough, Guelph put in six more and ultimately dashed the Gaiters hopes of a Baggataway Cup with the 18-9 win.
