MILHOMME MARVELSBishop's Gaiters freshman floor general
Ashley Milhomme of Repentigny, Que. further cemented her name as a contender for Rookie of the Year in the RSEQ. In last week's loss to UQAM, she scored 21 points, a career high, in the losing cause. She's averaging 10.6 points per game this year. That leads the Gaiters and is tops in the conference for first-years.
LOCAL LEADERMagog, Que. native
Noemie Hamel-Petit is only in her second year with the Bishop's Gaiters but she has taken on a leadership role. She has been arguably the most consistent Gaiter and is currently second among guards in the conference in rebounding at 5.5 boards per game. Her 8.9 points per game is second on the team and 12th in the conference and she plays more minutes than anyone in the RSEQ at 36.5 per game.
FINDING THEIR TOUCHAfter receiving votes to be in the CIS top-10 following a strong pre-season the Stingers were sluggish out of the gate. They started the campaign at 2-8 before winning three of their last four contests including a pair against the Gaiters. They are coming off a 77-64 loss to the McGill Martlets, the newly minted top team in the nation.
QUEEN BEESMarilyse Roy-Viau and Richelle Gregoire sit second and third in scoring in the conference at 14.6 and 14.5 points per game respectively. Last time out they netted 18 and 16 points to lead all scorers.
NORMAN'S NOTES"Concordia is a dangerous team," said Craig Norman, coach of the Gaiters. "They could win a championship this year. We have a tough time matching up with them but have to deal with it. They put a lot of pressure on us and that's tough for a young team but we are looking forward to the challenge. We've had a good week of practice and are eager to step on the floor in our familiar environment where we have played some of our best basketball."
NEXT UPThe Gaiters will have two games remaining in the 2015-16 season following Saturday's contest. They are next in action in Montreal against McGill on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m.
