SHERBROOKE, Que. - The Bishop's University men's rugby team will look to get back on even terms in 2016 when they host the Concordia Stingers on Friday night, Sept. 16. Kickoff at Coulter Field is set for 8 p.m.
The Gaiters (0-1) opened 2016 on a losing note last week, as they fell 26-10 to the Montreal Carabins.
Josh Bray and
Mike Izzard had the tries for the Gaiters.
Concordia (0-1) is also looking for their first win of the season, as they fell 46-3 to the McGill Redmen last week.
The Gaiters dropped the only meeting between the two teams last year, 20-13, on Sept. 13, 2015 in Montreal. Friday is the Stingers' first visit to Lennoxville, since October 24, 2014, a 27-14 Bishop's win.
The Stingers and the Gaiters have a history of close games, and often end up close to each other in the Quebec university rugby union standings, making Friday's contest – the only matchup of 2016 – pivotal for playoff position. Last year, Bishop's was 4-2-1, while Concordia went 4-3, and in 2014 the two clubs were regular season co-champions, as they posted identical 5-2 records.
Friday is the first of the three regular-season home games the Gaiters will play this season, and is part of a tripleheader of action at Coulter Field on Friday night. Action gets underway at 4 p.m. with women's soccer taking on Montreal, and concludes at 8 p.m. as men's rugby takes on the Stingers.
