The Carleton Ravens used a 20-point night from Yasiin Joseph and a double-double from Cam Smythe to defeat the Bishop's Gaiters, 95-59, on Day 1 of the House-Laughton men's basketball tournament in Ottawa, Friday. Joseph went 7-for-21 from the field as he led all scorers, while Smythe scored 12 points and added 10 rebounds.
Bishop's (0-6) was led by Joany Castor-Thadal, who had 18 points on 6-for-13 shooting, including five three-pointers. Kasey Paul-Buzas (Montreal, Que./) was the only other Gaiter in double figures, as he came off the bench to score 10.
Carleton (4-0) also got 16 points from Stanley Mayambo, 12 from Eddie Ekiyor and 11 from Mitch Wood. The Ravens led 28-15 after the first quarter, 45-30 at halftime and 70-45 after three quarters.
The Ravens held the Gaiters to only 34.5 per cent shooting, including going 6-for-28 from three-point range, as the Gaiters had their lowest point total of the season. Carleton shot 45 per cent from the field, and 83 per cent from the free-throw line.
The Gaiters are back in action on Saturday at 6 p.m. as they face the Acadia Axemen at the Ravens' Nest in Ottawa.
