The Bishop's Gaiters closed out the McKeen Metro Glebe Tournament with an 82-67 loss to the UNBC Timberwolves, in the first-ever meeting between the schools. The Timberwolves, who are from Prince George, B.C., got out to a 25-17 first-quarter lead and led 37-30 at halftime.
The Gaiters (5-3) were led by
Noemie Hamel-Petit (Magog, Que./Champlain-Lennoxville), who had 18 points, and
Ashley Milhomme (Repentigny, Que./Collège Montmorency), who had 15.
Maude Archambault (Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, Que./Collège Montmorency) (12) and
Metchline Gabelus (Montreal, Que./Champlain-St. Lambert) (10) were the other Bishop's players in double figures. On the glass,
Edith Noblecilla (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Santo Domingo de Guzmain) grabbed a team high eight rebounds, while
Marie-Evrardine Berrouette (Montreal, Que./Dawson College) had seven.
For UNBC (4-5), Vasiliki Louka led with 26 points and 12 rebounds, both game highs. Maria Mongomo also scored 20 , while Madison Landry added 17.
UNBC shot 50.9 per cent from the field, while the Gaiters were held to 35.7 per cent. UNBC outrebounded the Gaiters, who were playing their sixth game in 10 days, 39-24.
Bishop's is now off until Nov. 4, when they open RSEQ play against the UQAM Citadins. Tip-off at the Mitchell Gym is set for 6 p.m.
