Abdul Kamane (Montreal, Que./Vanier College) scored a season-high 26 points, but the Bishop's Gaiters men's basketball team could not hold off the Laval Rouge et Or as they fell, 89-74, in Quebec university league action in Quebec City, Friday. The third-year forward went 10-for-17 from the field and also grabbed eight rebounds for the Gaiters.
The Gaiters (1-10, 1-2 RSEQ) led 19-18 after the first quarter, as the first half featured four ties and eight lead changes. However, an 8-2 Laval run in the last five minutes of the first half put the hosts up for good. For Bishop's, David Belanger (Sherbrooke, Que./Champlain-St. Lambert) picked up a double-double, with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Joany Castor Thadal (Saint-Leonard, Que./Champlain-St. Lambert) also scored 11.
Laval (5-5, 2-1 RSEQ) was led by 28 points from Joel Muamba, who went 13-for-16 from the field. Frantson Demosthene scored 14 points while Nicolas Begin added 11 for the Rouge et Or.
Laval went 34-for-71 from the field, while the Gaiters were 30-for-62. Bishop's outrebounded Laval 34-28, but committed 29 turnovers to the Rouge et Or's 13.
The Gaiters are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 25, when they host the McGill Redmen at the Mitchell Gym. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
