SHERBROOKE – The McGill Redmen used a big second quarter to defeat the Bishop's Gaiters 87-59, in RSEQ men's university basketball action at the Mitchell Gym in Lennoxville, Saturday.
 
The teams were tied 14-14 after the first quarter, and Bishop's led 18-17 early in the second quarter. However, the No. 8-ranked Redmen took the game over with a 16-5 run through the middle of the period to jump out to a 33-23 lead, and they took a 35-23 lead in to the break. McGill extended their lead to 68-42 after three quarters as they cruised to the victory.
 
For Bishop's (5-15, 2-10 RSEQ), Jona Bermillo (Montreal, Que./Vanier College) and Alexandre Boissé led with 12 points each, while Abdul Kamane (Montreal, Que./Vanier College ) added 10 to go with a team-high seven rebounds.
 
McGill (15-5, 9-3 RSEQ) had four players in double figures, led by Avery Cadogan's 17 points. Michael Peterkin and Sebastian Beckett each had 11 points and Francois Bourque chipped in with 10.
 
The Redmen shot 51% from the field, compared to 35% for the Gaiters. McGill also outrebounded Bishop's 41-27.
 
The Gaiters are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 11, as they host the Laval Rouge et Or at the Mitchell Gym. Tip off is set for the special time of 6 p.m.
