Men's Rugby: Gaiters face old rivals from McGill at Coulter Field
THIS WEEK: The Bishop's Gaiters men's rugby team (1-0-0) continues their season-opening homestand on Friday night as they host the McGill Redmen (0-1-0). Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. at Coulter Field.
THE RECORDS: The Gaiters come into the game with a 1-0-0 record, after defeating ETS 19-12 in their season opener last week. They picked up four points from the game, which puts them one point behind Concordia in the "2-3-6" division standings. McGill dropped its opener, 34-10, to the Stingers last week and are in last place in the 2-3-6 division.

LAST TIME OUT: Tyler Murphy (Bromont, Que. )'s late charge gave the Bishop's Gaiters men's rugby team a 19-12 win over the ETS Pirhanas last Sunday. With five minutes left, the first year centre eluded several tacklers down the right sideline and looked set to score when he was brought down by a high tackle. He was awarded a penalty try for his efforts, which broke the 12-12 tie and gave the Gaiters the winning points. Murphy had scored earlier in the half to tie the game, while
Connor McCaffrey (Portsmouth, U.K. ) (try) and
Josh Bray (Lennoxville, Que./Bishop's College School) (conversion) scored in the first half.
WHEN LAST WE MET: The Gaiters fell just short in a back-and-forth RSEQ semi-final, falling 27-20 on Nov. 5 in Montreal. The Gaiters, who led 14-12 at halftime, got 15 points from
Josh Bray (Lennoxville, Que./Bishop's College School) on a try, two conversions and two penalty goals, while
Gerald Lafond (Fulford, Que./Champlain-Lennoxville) added a try. McGill got a pair of tries from Alexander Pantis, with Jordan Nimat and Rodwell Bent scoring one each. Andrew Manson scored seven points on two conversions and a penalty goal. The last time the teams played at Coulter Field was on Oct. 25, 2015, when they fought to a 22-22 tie, thanks to a pair of late Redmen scores.
