Women's Soccer: Gaiters to face Citadins and Patriotes this week

THIS WEEK: The Bishop's Gaiters women's soccer team (0-1-1) has a pair of games this weekend. On Friday, they host the UQAM Citadins (0-1-1) at Coulter Field, with kickoff set for 4 p.m. On Sunday, they head to Trois-Rivières to play the UQTR Patriotes in a 1 p.m. start.

THE RECORDS: The Gaiters come into the game with an 0-1-1 mark. Last week, they picked up their first result of the season as they played to a 1-1 draw with Concordia. They are tied for 6th in the RSEQ women's soccer league with Sherbrooke and UQAM. The Citadins drew their season opener, also against Concordia, and dropped a 3-0 decision to Montreal last week. UQTR, for its part, upset McGill in their first game, and fell 2-1 to Laval this week.

IN THE NET, ON THE NET: Friday's game will be webcast at www.gaiters.ca/webcast. Score updates will also be available on Twitter, by following @BishopsGaiters.

LAST TIME OUT: A 65th-minute goal by Lennoxville native Lindsay Moore (Lennoxville, Que./Champlain College Lennoxville) lifted the Gaiters into a 1-1 draw against the Concordia Stingers at home last Friday. The Stingers had taken the lead on a 28th-minute penalty by Chama Sedki. Sarah-Kim Bergeron (Calgary, Alta./Bishop Carroll S.S.) picked up the assist on the game-tying goal, and was named the Gaiters' player of the game. The Stingers outshot Bishop's 15-11, with Mehana Heins (Ottawa, Ont./Merivale S.S.) making six saves for the Gaiters. Carmen Milne made five shots for the Stingers.

WHEN LAST WE MET THE CITADINS: On Oct. 14, 2016, Marie-Pier Gougeon had the only goal as the Citadins edged Bishop's 1-0 in Montreal. She earned MVP honours for the winners, while Tiffany Smith (Oshawa, Ont./O'Neill C.V.I.) was the player of the game for Bishop's. Mehana Heins (Ottawa, Ont./Merivale S.S.) made seven saves for the Gaiters in a losing cause.

WHEN LAST WE MET THE PATRIOTES: On Oct. 20, 2016, Aidan McGillis (Vankleek Hill, Ont./Vankleek Hill Collegiate)' goal gave the Gaiters a share of the spoils in Trois-Rivières. Her goal was offset by a counter from Jacynthe Lepine of the Patriotes. Rebecca Bensimon (Dollard-Des-Ormeaux, Que./John Abbott College) made 10 saves for Bishop's, while Maria Crozes had 11 stops for UQTR.
