Gaiters send Redmen Running

Sherbrooke, Que – In the final game of a Friday night triple header on Coulter Field the Bishops Gaiters men's rugby team faced a strong McGill attack. The Gaiters played an exceptional game and ultimately came out on top with a 32-27 win over the Redmen.

How it Happened:
The scoring opened early in this contest, and did not slow down. The Gaiters got on the board with a try from Brock Spencer (Langley, B.C./Sacred Heart (Ottawa)) after a great opening drive by the Gaiters offense. The try was capped off with a conversion by Josh Bray (Lennoxville, Que./Bishop's College School).  Shortly after a BU penalty, resulting in a McGill line out lead to the Redmen answering back with a try of their own to tie the game at seven. At the 10-min mark, after a McGill Penalty the Gaiters elected to kick for points, and Josh Bray (Lennoxville, Que./Bishop's College School) made no mistake sending his first of two penalty goals through the uprights. Later in the first half McGill's Sebastien Boyer was handed a yellow, but McGill was able to hold strong and did not allow a point while a man down. Both teams were able to tack on a few more scores before making the score 22-17 at the half.

McGill opened the second half strong with a quick try at the 45-min mark to tie up the game at 22 a piece. The McGill Defense was also holding strong with two goal-line stands. McGill did a great job at holding possession throughout the match, but to no avail as the Gaiters were able to capitalize on the chances they were given. It seemed that he Gaiters had tallied another major in the 77th min, but the try was disallowed due to a penalty on the Gaiters. The Gaiters defense held strong for the rest of the match, and were able to come out on top 32-27.
