Coach's Corner
On McGill:
They're a tremendous team. They're No. 1 in the country, defending national champions, 16-2 overall, 7-1 in the conference, coached by Ryan Thorne, a former Gaiter. They're well-coached and they probably have the top player in the country in Alex Kiss-Rusk. I think Mara matches up well with her but she's a helluva player, she's patient, she runs the show for them. Frederique Potvin is a tremendous player. You've got those two players. Rusk played at Virginia Tech, Potvin played at Pittsburgh – both major Division I programs. They're the engine that drives the cog. Most of their stuff is built around those two players, but they have clearly defined roles and their other players are unbelievably well-disciplined, they do not take any poor shots, they attack matchups. They have a plan and they stick with it. They force you to make mistakes and they have very limited empty possessions, either defensively or offensively, so the window for error is very small against them.
On the team's momentum coming into the weekend:
"We've beaten four Top-10 teams this year. We beat Concordia twice when they were tenth. We beat Ryerson when they were No. 10. We beat Laval, they were ranked fifth or sixth at the time. We look at this game as a challenge for us - the No. 1 team in the country. Obviously, we don't feel like we have any pressure. It's back-to-back and we have them at home the first night. I believe the girls have had a great week of practice. Those two games against Concordia were tremendous for our confidence. What we've talked about this week is the concept of 2-0. We went 2-0 at our Christmas tournament, which led to 0-2 vs. UQAM, which led to 2-0 vs. Concordia. We've got to learn to deal with 2-0. We get a chance to test ourselves, challenge ourselves, engage ourselves and see where we're at against the best in the country. I'm expecting our girls to come out and play their best game of the year tomorrow night. They're starting to gel as a team. I wouldn't say we're peaking but we're practicing at a high level. We're playing at a high level and now we get to see where we're really at against the best in the country."
