LENNOXVILLE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters men's lacrosse team outscored Carleton 7-0 in the third quarter and had 12 unanswered goals to start the second half en route to a convincing 19-5 victory in their final CUFLA East regular season game of the year, Saturday on Coulter Field.
After a slow start, Bishop's led 3-2 after one and just 5-3 at half, the Gaiters rolled.
Whatever was said at halftime worked, as the hosts scored early and often in the third stanza.
It was more of the same in the fourth including
Noah Lane (Mississauga, Ont./Hoosac School) and
Sam Marceau (St-Henri, Que./Hebron Academy) scoring their first goals this year.
Gabriel Chamberlain (Roberts Creek, B.C./Elphinstone Secondary) and
Sam Firth (Ottawa, Ont./Nepean H.S.) each had hattricks, while
Joel Wright (Newmarket, Ont./Sir William Mulock S.S.) scored four times.
Goalies
Alex Tooth (Manchester, ME/Maranacook C.S.S.) and
Ian Connors (Hammonds Plains, N.S./Charles P. Allen H.S.) each played two quarters.
Full game box score.
Coach Rob Engelken spoke about the game and looked ahead to possible playoff match-ups.
Prior to the contest six graduating seniors were honoured with their families. Marceau and Tooth,
Andrew Cook (Montreal, Que./Lower Canada College),
Aidan Reynolds (Adelaide, AUSTRALIA/Modbury H.S.),
Taren Cook (Rothesay, N.B./The Holderness School) and
Sam Fontaine (Cornwall, Ont./Ecole Secondaire La Citadelle).
Next Up
Bishop's now must await the outcome of the Trent-McGill game on Sunday to see their first round playoff match-up. Currently McGill is in first place and Trent in second. The Gaiters have fifth place wrapped up and will travel to the second place team next Saturday for the CUFLA East playoff round.
