SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters men's rugby team is set to host the Concordia Singers on Friday night under the lights of Coulter Field at 7 p.m.
Tale of the Tape:
Bishop's
Tyler Murphy (Bromont, Que./Massey Vanier H.S.) had one try, two conversions and one penalty kick to lead the Gaiters with 10 points in their 29-15 loss to McGill last weekend.
Patrick Currie (Saint John, N.B./Saint John H.S.) also scored a try for Bishop's. With the win McGill 2-0-0 (10 points) takes over second place from the Gaiters 2-1-0 (9 points) who fall to third in the RSEQ standings. Murphy leads the conference with 43 points.
Concordia
The Stingers (3-0-0) (15 points) are top in the RSEQ. They beat Montreal (0-2-0) 36-3 last weekend at home. Concordia's leading try scorer is Michael Laplaine-Pereira with four in three games. Jonathan Banks is third overall in the conference in points scored with 32 points from 13 conversions.
Match-up:
In 2017, the Stingers took down the Gaiters twice, 48-13 and 57-22.
Coach's Corner:
"Concordia is a very large team," said head coach
Charles Goode. "They are 3-0, lead the league in points for and least against and of course we know that we are playing last year's champion with experience at nationals. The goal this week is to do better in our scrum and line-out, which we struggled with last weekend against McGill. If we can get our set piece right and play the same kind of defense we played last week, we might have a chance to pop Concordia here at home. We are going to have to play our best game and get a little bit lucky but anything we do in the game that gets us a point will be outstanding."
Next up:
The Gaiters will take on ETS (0-2-0) on Sat. Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. in Montreal.
