MONTREAL –
Edith Noblecilla (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Santo Domingo de Guzmain) led the Bishop's Gaiters women's basketball team with 23 points to a 70–58 victory over the UQAM Citadins on Thursday night in Montreal.
It was a battle from the start between the Gaiters and Citadins. The two teams traded baskets through the first frame but UQAM was able to pull ahead for a 14-9 lead at the first break. The second quarter told the same tale, but the Citadins only had the slight 27-26 lead at the half. Fifth year starters, Noblecilla for the Gaiters and Jessica Lubin for the Citadins led their respective teams with 10 points each at the half. Bishop's took control of the contest, midway through the third quarter and never looked back. They were led by
Mara Marchizotti (Buenos Aires, Argentina/), who scored all of her 10 points in the second half. The Gaiters took the contest 70-58.
Along with her 23 points, Noblecilla had six rebounds and three assists.
Maude Archambault (Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, Que./Collège Montmorency) had 13 points and
Ashley Milhomme (Repentigny, Que./Collège Montmorency) added 11 points. Rookie
Marie-Evrardine Berrouette (Montreal, Que./Dawson College) put up nine points and had seven rebounds.
For the Citadins, Jessica Lubin led with 17 points and seven rebounds. Roxanne Douaire had 11 points, four rebounds and three steals.
The Gaiters and UQAM have split their series 2-2. Bishop's sits above UQAM in third in the RSEQ standings with 12 points compared to the Citadins eight points.
Next Up
Bishop's will play a pair against the Laval Rouge et Or. On Sunday, Feb. 11 they are in Quebec City and will tip-off at 1 p.m. while on Tuesday, Feb. 13 the teams play in Mitchell Gym at 6 p.m.
