SHERBROOKE, Que. – Homecoming Friday traditionally features a triple header of Bishop's Gaiter teams playing on Coulter Field. This year is no different, although the order of games was shaken up. The women's rugby team will kickoff with McGill to start the festivities at 4:30 p.m. in RSEQ University action.
Year to Date
Bishop's (0-3-1) is coming of a 31-31 draw with the Montreal Carabins last Saturday. The tie was their best result since 2009.
Erika Scott (Dewittville, Que./John Abbott College) led the way with four tires and three converts. That earned her RSEQ Female Athlete of the Week honours.
McGill (0-4) is still in search of their first points of the season. A week ago, they lost 52-7 to the Sherbrooke Vert et Or in Montreal.
Last time up
In the eight-team RSEQ University conference, opponents only meet on one occasion in the regular season each year. In 2017, McGill won that contest 40-8 in Montreal.
Coach's Corner
Bishop's Gaiters bench boss
Tom Whyld was pleased with last weekend's draw but he and his team have higher aspirations.
"The draw against Université de Montreal was great but we want more," Whyld said. "We knew if we played well we had a chance. We laid the foundation now we have to build up the house. We have to recognize we did well and that we are a good team but we have to stay humble and focused. It is important to know we have not won anything yet.
"McGill is a good team. They play with heart, are in the game for 80 minutes and don't miss tackles."
