SACKVILLE, N.B. – The Mount Allison Mounties scored 27 second quarter points and never looked back en route to a 35-13 victory over the Bishop's Gaiters on Saturday afternoon in windy Sackville, N.B. in AUS football action.

The Gaiters took the opening kickoff and marched 10 plays and 74 yards before
Noah Laursen (Calgary, Alta./Bishop Carroll H.S.) kicked a 26-yard field goal.  He booted a 19 yarder on the next possession.  The Gaiters defense made noise in the first frame; they did not allow a Mounties first down.  Laursen kicked his third field goal with 1:10 left in the stanza that gave the Gaiters a 9-0 advantage after 15 minutes with the brisk wind at their back.

Mount Allison trumped the Gaiters as they quickly took advantage of the wind.  Bishop's conceded a safety then the Mounties went to work, scoring 25 more unanswered points, three touchdowns and two more conceded safeties.  At the half Mt. A led 27-9.

Bishop's had the wind to start the third quarter but after penalties pushed them back they were forced yet again to give up two points. The Mounties returned the favour and conceded another safety. Those were the only scores of the third quarter.

The Gaiters seemed poised to grab some momentum early in the fourth quarter when a snap flew over punter James Parkers head and Bishop's recovered on the Mountie three-yard line.  Unfortunately, the Gaiters were unable to find pay dirt and turned the ball over on downs.  Mt. A did concede but that was as close as it got. Parker booted through two field goals in the late stages of the game to make the final 35-13.

Penalties were the name of the game as the Mounties committed 18 fouls that cost them 219 yards and Bishop's was flagged 16 times for 113 yards.

Gaiters quarterback
Charles Aubry (Laval, Que./College Lionel-Groulx) was 22-36 for 170 yards but was picked off four times. On defense, Alexandre Prevost led the way with 6.5 tackles in the loss.
Louve Moussenguet (St-Jerome, Que./Cégep de St-Jérôme) added to his league-lead with a pair of tackles for loss.  He had 5.5 on the day.
Nicholas Cartagenise (Brampton, Ont./Agincourt CI) recorded his fourth interception of the year.

Mountie quarterback David Patry finished 10-19 for 187 yards and two touchdowns including a 70-yard bomb to Josh Hicks. Hicks caught four balls for 104 yards to lead all receivers.

The win moves the Mounties to 3-4 on the year while Bishop's ends their regular season at 4-4 and now must wait for the outcome of next week's games to determine if and where any playoff match-up might happen.

The Mounties host undefeated Acadia (7-0), while StFX (1-6) travels to St. Mary's (3-4). If either St. Mary's or Mount Allison lose, the Gaiter clinch a playoff spot. Bishop's can finish as high as second place if both teams lose. The Gaiters will be eliminated if both teams win.
