Jael Kabunda (Montreal, Que./College Montmorency) and
Deborah Aboagye (Montreal, Que.) each scored 18 points while sophomore
Amaiquen Siciliano (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Velez Sarsfield) added 17 as No. 5 Bishop's Gaiters took care of perennial power house McGill 64-47 on Thursday night in Lennoxville. The win moves to Bishop's to 3-0 as they sit in sole possession of first place in the RSEQ University Women's Basketball standings.
Bishop's used strong first and third quarters, 23 points in each, to put away McGill who falls to 0-3. Kabunda, the reigning RSEQ Female Athlete of the Week needed just eight shots from the floor. She was 6-8 including 3-5 from three-point range. She added eight rebounds, a steal and an assist to round out her stat line.
Aboagye scored her 18 on 6-12 shooting and was 4-8 from downtown. She added three steals, a rebound and an assist. Siciliano played 36 minutes and scored and was a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. She had four assists, two steals and two rebounds.
Marie Berrouette (Montreal, Que./Dawson College) grabbed 10 boards in the win.
For McGill Charlotte Clayton scored 16 points while Nadege Pluvoise had 11 and Sirah Diarra 10 in the loss.
Bishop's (3-0) heads to Laval for a match-up with No. 9 Laval (2-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Rouge et Or are coming off 70-67 loss to UQAM (2-2) on Thursday night.
