Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Marty Rourke, Bishop's Sports Information

Gaiters sneak by UQAM, enter playoffs on 4-game winning streak

MONTREAL – Abdul Kamane's (Montreal, Que./Vanier College) lay-in with 22 seconds remaining put the Gaiters ahead for good as they went onto an 83-81 victory over the UQAM Citadins in the final regular season game of the RSEQ Men's Basketball season.

The Gaiters were led by Yassin Naji (Lunel, France/Lycee Pothier Orleans) who scored 21 points on 8-11 shooting, including 4-6 from behind the arc.  Kamane scored 20 points, 18 of which came after the break.  They were the lone Gaiters in double figures.

Alix Lochard tallied a game-high 31 points for the Citadins in the loss. He also had 11 rebounds. Imbrahima Sylla added 14 points.

Bishop's trailed 25-20 after the first and 46-42 at halftime before outscoring UQAM 19-14 in the third stanza. A close fourth highlighted by Kamane's finish was enough to give Bishop's the 83-81 win.

"Our guys wanted to win," said Gaiters' head coach Rod Gilpin.  "I'm happy that we did and more so how we did it. We played 11 guys and rotated every two minutes regardless of the situation."

Entering the game, Bishop's already knew they had locked up fourth place in the conference and that was not going to change regardless of the outcome. What it does mean is the Gaiters are the hottest team in the RSEQ as they prepare for their first round playoff match up at Concordia on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
