Gaiters soccer starts 2019-20 campaign Wednesday; home opener Friday

LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Optimism, youth and team chemistry.  All can describe the Bishop's Gaiters women's soccer program as they are set to open the 2019 season on Wednesday.  They will be in Montreal to face McGill at 3 p.m. in Percival Molson Stadium.
 
Bishop's hosts Montreal on Friday at 7 p.m. in their home opener on Coulter Field.  As has become tradition the game will feature a large contingent of Gaiter fans and fellow student-athletes and all spectators will get to enjoy Coaticook Ice Cream.

The Gaiters enter the campaign with optimism and a young squad.  Eleven new faces don the purple and silver as Bishop's looks to make headway in the tough RSEQ.  A year ago, they went 0-13-1.
 
Head Coach Paul Ballard enters his fourth season at the helm.

 
McGill
The Martlets are coming off a fourth place finish a year ago in the RSEQ.  They lost their semifinal matchup to Montreal.
 
The Series
McGill is 11-0-1 in the last 12 meetings between the foes. In their last meeting a year ago, McGill scored in the 94th minute to propel them to a 1-0 victory.

Montreal
The Montreal Carabins are the reigning RSEQ Champions.  They posted a 10-0-4 record in the regular season; beat McGill in the semifinal the rolled Laval 4-0 to claim the conference championship.
 
At the U SPORTS Championships, they lost their opener to the McMaster Maurauders 1-0 on penalty kicks.
 
The series
Montreal has controlled the last 12 meetings between the two teams dating back to 2013.  They are a perfect 12-0-0 and have scored at least two goals in each game.
