LENNOXVILLE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters women's basketball team opens the second half of the season with a pair of crucial games against the Laval Rouge et Or in a battle between the top two teams in the RSEQ standings.
 
The Gaiters play host to Laval on Thursday, with opening tip set for 6 p.m. in Mitchell Gym. They will then travel to Quebec City to take on the Rouge et Or in the back half of the home-and-home on Saturday with the opening tip set for 6 p.m.
 
Bishop's
The Gaiters are back in action for the first time since the tournament they hosted over the holiday break. They faced two tough U SPORTS opponents and came away with a 76-67 loss to the University of Windsor and a 73-67 loss to Queen's University.
 
Bishop's comes into this week sporting a 4-1 record in conference play which puts them in second place, just one game back of Laval for first place. The Gaiters enter this week ranked tenth in the nation in the latest U SPORTS poll.
 
Laval
The Rouge et Or enter the week fresh off a pair of victories to open the semester over the McGill Martlets. The two victories improved their record to 5-2 in RSEQ play to put them in first place in the standings. They enter the week as the eighth ranked team in the country in the latest U SPORTS poll.
 
Last time we met
The Gaiters traveled to Quebec City back on Nov. 24^th to take on the Rouge et Or for the first time this season. Injuries and foul trouble proved to be costly for the Gaiters as they came away with a 72-64 loss.
 
Amaiquen Siciliano (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Velez Sarsfield) led the offense for the Gaiters as she finished the game with 21 points. She was joined in double figures by Deborah Aboagye (Montreal, Que.) and Metchline Gabelus (Montreal, Que./Champlain College St-Lambert), who both put up 13 points.
 
Meanwhile, Laval was led by Carrie-Ann Auger who scored 25 points, and Marie-Pier Champagne who ended the night with 12 points.
 
Homecoming
Thursday will the mark the return of former Bishop's Gaiter Maude Archambault (St-Augustine-de-Desmaures, Que./Cegep de Montmorency) to Mitchell Gym. Archambault now dawns the red and gold as she continues her graduate studies at Laval after a tremendous four year career in purple.
