Gaiters host Citadins in RSEQ Playoff Action

LENNOXVILLE, Que. – For just the second time in eight years, the Bishop's University women's basketball team will play post-season basketball. Wednesday night will mark the first time since 2009 they will host a playoff contest as the UQAM Citadins are in Lennoxville for an RSEQ semifinal. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Mitchell Gym.
 
Bishop's (10-6)
The Gaiters enter the playoffs following two wins to close out the regular season. Sensational sophomore Amaiquen Siciliano (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Velez Sarsfield) scored a career high 38 points, the most in a single game in the RSEQ since 2006-07, as the Gaiters beat the Concordia Stingers 93-69 on Thursday night in Mitchell Gym. Bishop's then travelled to Montreal where they closed out the regular season with an 86-76 win over the UQAM Citadins on Saturday night. Siciliano led the Gaiters in scoring once again with a game-high 28 points.
 
UQAM (7-9)
The Citadins enter the playoffs after splitting a pair games in the final week of the regular season. UQAM opened the week with a 58-55 road win over the McGill Martlets on Thursday night. Inga Aleksaite led the way for the Citadins with 16 points. UQAM then hosted the Gaiters on Saturday night and lost 86-76. Clara Blachier led their offence with 18 points.
 
Season Series
Bishop's and UQAM met four times this season with the Gaiters going 3-1 in those games including a victory in the season finale meeting. In those matchups, the Gaiters were 2-0 on the road and 1-1 in Mitchell Gym.
 
Statistical Leaders
The Gaiters finished the regular season with the top two scorers in the RSEQ, Siciliano and Jael Kabunda (Montreal, Que./College Montmorency). Siciliano led the conference with 21.5 points per game and Kabunda was right behind her in second with 14.9 points per game. Siciliano was also the conference leader in steals with 2.2 per game and was third in assists with 4.1 per game. Kabunda was second in the conference in rebounding with 10.3 per game.

All-Time
Bishop's is 0-1 all-time against the Citadins in the playoffs, their lone meeting came in 2009 in Lennoxville.
 
The Gaiters are 7-13 since 2013 against UQAM in regular season play.

Next Up
A win for the Gaiters and they will either travel to Laval (12-4, 1st in RSEQ) or host McGill (7-9, 4th in RSEQ) with the RSEQ Championship on the line on Saturday, Feb. 29.  The Martlets and Rouge et Or also play at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. A loss and the Gaiters season is over.
