LENNOXVILLE, Que. - The Ottawa Gee-Gees started strong on Friday night, scoring the first try of the game after less than five minutes on the field. The Gaiters were unable to recover and the Gee-Gees took the match by a final score of 44-11 in RSEQ men's rugby.
The game was a hard-fought battle and showcased speed and physicality from the get-go. Ottawa's first try was scored in the early moments of the game by Duncan Hladik while Jamie Armstrong added his first convert of the match. The Gaiters got on the board two minutes later when
Kyle Corrigan (Ottawa, ON/St. Paul H.S.) kicked a penalty for Bishop's. The Gaiters then took the lead with a
Patrick Currie (Saint John, NB/Saint John H.S.) try followed by another penalty by Corrigan. Ottawa battled back and took a 27-11 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Gee-Gees again started quickly, scoring less than 2 minutes into the period and were able to keep the Gaiters from gaining any momentum for the remainder of the game. The game ended with the visiting Gee-Gees on top.
The loss drops Bishop's to 2-1 (8 points) while Ottawa improves to 3-1 (12 points) on the season.
Matthew Shufelt (Brigham, QC/Cégep de Sherbrooke / Université de Sherbrooke) was named the game MVP for the Gaiters.

The Gaiters are back in action next Saturday as they travel to Montreal to face the Carabins at 3PM on the first out-of-town road game of the year for the purple and silver.
