LENNOXVILLE, Que. – After defeating the UQTR Patriotes on Friday in the second-to-last weekend of the RSEQ regular season, the Gaiters were looking for another big win on Sunday over cross-town rivals, the Sherbrooke Vert et Or, and the Gaiters delivered, defeating the Vert et Or by a 1-0 scoreline.
Amy Marchand-Dion's (Sherbrooke, QC/King's Edgehill School) goal, her first of the season, was the difference maker for the Gaiters in the match-up with the Vert et Or. The lone goal of the game was scored in the 59th minute and was the result of a
Jessalynn Hill (Brantford, ON/North Park C.V.S.) corner kick. The ball was perfectly placed inside the penalty area and Marchand-Dion made no mistake and buried the ball past the Sherbrooke goaltender. The Gaiters never let up, securing the 3-points and the victory.
As is tradition on Senior Sunday at Bishop's University, the Gaiters honoured graduating seniors
Mathilde Benoît-Fortier,
Kayla Kyle (Montreal, QC/John Abbott College),
Ella Lee (Vancouver, BC/Sir Winston Churchill S.S.),
Malou Merovitz (Sherbrooke, QC/Champlain-Lennoxville),
Alycia Morin (Montreal, QC/Cégep Lionel Groulx) and
Frédérique Rivard on Coulter Field prior to this afternoon's game.
The Gaiters completed the weekend sweep, collecting 6 points from their two contests, and will now enter the final two games of the 2021 regular season with a 4-6-2 record, sitting in fifth position in the standings with 14 points. The Gaiters have shown that they are contenders for a playoff position and will look to continue their post-season push as they travel to Montreal for the final two games of the season.
