MONTREAL – True freshman Charles Robert (Vaudreuil, Que./Suffield Academy) led all scorers with 19 points, but it wasn't enough for the Bishop's Gaiters as they fell 76-74 to the McGill Redbirds on Saturday night in Montreal in RSEQ University men's basketball action.
 
Robert went 8-12 from the field including 2-3 from three-point land and added eight rebounds, three steals and a block for the Gaiters who led 22-18 after one quarter. 
 
McGill poured it on in the second stanza with 27 points to grab a 45-38 halftime lead.
 
Bishop's clawed back in the third, cut the deficit to 59-55 and set up a thrilling finish.
 
The Gaiters had a chance down the stretch, but McGill hung on for the two-point victory.
 
Ibrahim Ngom (Montreal, Que./Vanier College), Connor Kelly (Brockville, Ont./St. Mary's C.S.S.), and Carl Jacob (Sherbrooke, Que./Champlain-Lennoxville) rounded out the Gaiters in double figures with 17, 13 and 11 points respectively. Sam Jenkins scored 17 to lead McGill and added 12 rebounds for the double-double.
 
The loss drops Bishop's to 1-2, while McGill improves to 3-0 this year.
 
Next up the Gaiters wrap-up the first semester when the host the UQAM Citadins (1-1) on Thursday in Mitchell Gym.
