LENNOXVILLE, Que. – On the heels of the announcement that Jonathan Crompton will join the Bishop's Gaiters as their Offensive Coordinator, the Bishop's University Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that Head Football Coach
Cherif Nicolas has agreed to a contract extension.
Nicolas, who completed his fifth year at the helm of the Gaiters, has led Bishop's to consecutive Loney Bowl appearances.
"This has been a dream job for me," said Nicolas. "This place is so special. The people from the players to the coaches to administration are a pleasure to work with every day. The alumni and supporters of this program are so loyal and supportive. It's an honour and a privilege to coach this team."
Nicolas' stint in Lennoxville began in December 2016 when he became the Gaiters' 10
th head coach. It is his first U SPORTS head coaching gig. Prior to making the move to the Eastern Townships, Nicolas was at the helm of Cegep de Vieux Montreal for seven seasons.
"Cherif has truly embraced the Bishop's experience and has done a wonderful job leading our football program," said
Matt McBrine, Bishop's University Director of Athletics and Recreation. "He takes our student-centred approach to heart. I know he will continue to work each day to develop our student-athletes on and off the field. Our recent success is a testament to his work ethic and dedication. I look forward to seeing what is next for our football team."
