After an extended winter break, the Bishop's Gaiters women's soccer team opened the 2022 indoor soccer season at the Centre Multisport Roland-Dussault in Sherbrooke on Sunday afternoon against the UQTR Patriotes.
In the first and only meeting between the Gaiters and Patriotes this season, the two teams matched up indoors for the first time in almost two years.
The Gaiters put in a full 90 minutes but were unable to start the season in the win column, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Patriotes.
UQTR got on the board first, scoring at the mid-way point of the first half to go up 1-0. The Patriotes added to their lead just minutes before the break, taking a 2-0 scoreline into halftime.
In the second half, Bishop's fought hard and narrowed the lead to just one when
Alycia Morin (Montreal, QC/Cégep Lionel Groulx) scored the Gaiters' first goal of 2022 when she chipped the UQTR goalkeeper from distance in the 60th minute of play.
Unfortunately, it wasn't enough in the end and it was UQTR who secured the win and claimed the three points.
Alycia Morin (Montreal, QC/Cégep Lionel Groulx) was named Bishop's MVP for her performance.
