Despite a quick start and getting the game's first goal, the Bishop's Gaiters women's hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision on Friday night at home.
Bishop's welcomed the McGill Martlets to the Jane & Eric Molson Arena, looking to get back into the win column, but McGill would spoil the party, skating away with a 4-1 win.
After recognizing the Gaiters' graduating seniors, the opening 20 minutes of play saw a combined 19 shots for the two teams but none found the back of the net.
In the second stanza, the purple and white opened the game's scoring 13 minutes into the period. After a pass up ice,
Neleh Vigneau Sargeant (Dartmouth, N.S., Lockview H.S.) carried the puck into the offensive zone before laying it off to
Angélique Pagé (Ottawa, Ont., Laurentian Voyageurs) at the back post who didn't miss, recording her second of the season.
Pagé's tally was the lone goal of the second period and the Gaiters entered the intermission up a goal.
Eight minutes into the third, the Martlets tied the game at 1-1 on the power play.
With the Gaiters once again on the penalty kill two minutes later, the Martlets took advantage, going up 2-1 and getting their first lead of the game.
McGill found the back of the net twice more in the closing minutes of the third period to take the game by a final score of 4-1.
Jade Shushu Saulnier-Cyr (Shediac, N.B./E.P. Louis-J. Robichaud) finished with 33 saves in the loss, while the Gaiters managed to fire 27 shots of their own at the Martlets' net.
