The Bishop's Gaiters men's basketball team was looking to clinch a playoff spot on Saturday night in front of a home crowd when the visiting McGill Redbirds were in town.
On Thursday, the Gaiters dropped a tough contest to the Redbirds in Lennoxville and were looking to start the series on the right foot.
In the end, Thursday's contest went to the Redbirds who earned the win by a score of 69-55.
The Gaiters got on the board first with a 3-point shot from
Anthony Sanogo (Montreal, Que./) but the two teams exchanged baskets throughout the opening quarter with the Redbirds holding a narrow 17-16 lead after 10 minutes of play.
The second stanza was more of the same from both teams but McGill outscored the Gaiters 13-10, maintaining a 30-26 lead at the half.
The Redbirds came out of the halftime break strong and shot 53.3% from the field to take a 56-37 lead after 30 minutes of play.
Bishop's fought hard in the fourth, outscoring the Redbirds 18-13 in the closing 10 minutes but were unable to close the gap and dropped the contest by a final score of 69-55.
Ibrahim Ngom (Montreal, Que./Vanier College) led the Gaiters' offense with 15 points, five rebounds and three assists while
Obinna Dike-Nwagbara (Montreal, QC/Champlain College Saint-Lambert), Michel Hakizimana (Gatineau, Que./) and Anthony Sanogo (Montreal, Que./) combined for 18 points.
