Gaiters dominate Martlets in Shoot for the Cure game

The Bishop's Gaiters women's basketball team has clinched a spot in the RSEQ playoffs but the work is not yet done as the Gaiters look to secure home court advantage in the semi-finals.

On Saturday night, the Gaiters hosted the McGill Martlets at Mitchell Gymnasium in the annual Shoot for the Cure game in the first game of this weekend's home-and-home.

Leading by 25-points at the halftime break, the Gaiters collected a win in convincing style, defeating the visiting Martlets by a final score of 82-31.

The Gaiters scored the first basket of the game and didn't look back, outscoring McGill 17-2 in the opening 10 minutes of play to hold a comfortable advantage headed into the second stanza.

Bishop's continued to drive the net in the second quarter, doubling up on the Martlets points to take a 37-12 lead into the break.

In the third quarter, the Gaiters had their best shooting quarter of the game, going 55.6% from the field to take a 67-23 advantage into the final frame.

The fourth quarter was more of the same for Bishop's who earned a convincing 82-31 victory.

Eleven Gaiters saw the court during the contest, but it was Victoria Gauna (Mendoza, Argentina/) that led the way for Bishop's, scoring 22-points, securing seven rebounds and recording three assists on the night. Amaiquen Siciliano (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Velez Sarsfield), Kalina Alexander-Renaud (Gatineau, Que./Nouvelle-Frontieres) and Deborah Aboagye (Montreal, Que./Vanier College) each had double digit performances and combined for 38 points.
