With five Gaiters in double digits, the Bishop's Gaiters women's basketball team completed the weekend sweep in a rare Saturday afternoon contest in Montreal.
The Gaiters got a convincing win over the McGill Martlets in the weekend opener on Thursday with an 82-31 scoreline and were able to claim a 78-59 victory on Saturday to collect all four points up for grab this weekend.
Saturday's contest was a tight one in the opening 20 minutes of play. The Gaiters went up 10-3 early in the first quarter but the Martlets hung around to make the score after 10 minutes 14-12 in favour of Bishop's.
Scoring another 14 points in the second, the Gaiters found themselves down 29-28 at the halftime break.
Bishop's came out of the half, pushing for the victory and, after shooting 50% from 3-point range in the third, put up a game-leading 26 points to lead 54-41 with 10 minutes remaining in the contest.
The final frame saw the best shooting from both teams but the Gaiters' lead was too much to come back from as Bishop's earned the victory.
Victoria Gauna (Mendoza, Argentina/) (15),
Deborah Aboagye (Montreal, Que./Vanier College) (14),
Jasmine Martel (Sorel-Tracy, Que./Cegep de Trois-Rivieres) (13),
Jael Kabunda (Montreal, Que./College Montmorency) (13) and
Amaiquen Siciliano (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Velez Sarsfield) (12) all scored in double digits for a combined 67 points. Siciliano added 10 assists to record the game's only double-double.
