Gee-Gees edge Gaiters to force game 3 in bronze medal semifinal

LENNOXVILLE, Que. – The Ottawa Gee-Gees scored two late first period goals and it was all they needed as they went onto a 4-0 win over the Bishop's Gaiters on Saturday afternoon at the Jane and Eric Molson Arena in Lennoxville, Que.

After Bishop's won 4-0 on Thursday, they had a chance to clinch to the RSEQ University Women's Hockey Bronze Medal Semifinal series on home ice, but it was not meant to be, and the Gaiters will have less than 24 hours to regroup for game 3.

Kylie Lalonde got Ottawa on the board at the 14:49 mark.  It was her first of two. Ariane Minville fired a shot from the half boards into a gaping net after Gaiters' goalie Aglae Rene de Cotret fell off balance just 1:28 later to make the game 2-0.

In the second stanza Lalonde scored her second 4:31 in.

Katherine Birkby rounded out the scoring after gloving down a clearing attempt midway through the third period.

The Gaiters out-shot Ottawa 31-30 but could not beat Aurelie Dubuc who collected her first win of the 2022 postseason.

Rene de Cotret made 26 saves in the loss and falls to 2-1-0 in the playoffs.

Dubuc was named first star, Lalonde second star and Alyssa McMillan who picked up two assists third star.

The two teams step back onto the ice in less than 24 hours as they play game three at the Minto Sports Complex in Ottawa on Sunday, March 20 at 2 p.m.
