After winning two playoff series in a row, the Bishop's Gaiters women's hockey team was back on the ice to face the Montréal Carabins in the final post-season series of the year.
The Gaiters started the series on the road, something they have become accustomed to in recent weeks, but were unable to keep their perfect road record alive, dropping the game by a score of 3-1.
Thursday night saw the purple and white get on the board first, 13 minutes into the opening period of play.
Neleh Vigneau Sargeant (Dartmouth, N.S., Lockview H.S.) netted her fifth of the post-season, and seventh on the year, to give the Gaiters a 1-0 lead.
Maude Pépin (Pont-Rouge, Que., Cegep Limoilou) and
Kamryn Johnson (Swift Current, Sask., Swift Current Comprehensive H.S.) recorded the assists.
The Carabins leveled the score less than two minutes later on the power play to make the score 1-1 at the first intermission.
In the second stanza, Bishop's and Montréal split the possession and scoring opportunities but it was the home team that found the back of the net in the closing minutes of the period to go up 2-1 after 40 minutes.
Bishop's fought hard in the third period but were unable to add to their total. The Carabins sealed the deal with an empty netter in the dying seconds of the game to take the game by a score of 3-1.
Charley Wing (Huntsville, Ont., Mother Teresa C.S.S.) turned away 24 shots in the contest, while Bishop's tallied 16 of their own.
