With the series title in Round 1 of playoffs in their grasp, the Bishop's Gaiters women's hockey team faced the Carleton Ravens for the fifth time this season, this time in Lennoxville.
Coming off of a big 2-1 win on Thursday night, the Gaiters looked to complete the series sweep in the second meeting of the weekend.
After 60 minutes of play, it was the Gaiters that came out on top – earning a 2-0 victory.
The lone goal of the opening period came five minutes into the frame on the power play for Bishop's thanks to a strong solo effort from
Neleh Vigneau Sargeant (Dartmouth, N.S./Lockview H.S.).
After the intermission, both teams continued to press and although the Ravens outshot the Gaiters in the second period, the game remained 1-0 in favour of the home team.
In the third and final stanza, needing a goal, the Ravens pulled their goalie on a Carleton power play late in the period to go up 6-on-4 for two minutes. The Gaiters held off the visitors and managed to add another before the final buzzer.
Maude Pépin (Pont-Rouge, Que., Cegep Limoilou) sealed the victory for the Gaiters, scoring an empty netter in the final minute of play, her third of the season, to make the final 2-0.
Jöelle Gagnon (Sudbury, Ont., College Notre-Dame) picked up an assist on the goal.
Aglaé René de Cotret (Rouyn-Noranda, Que., Champlain-Lennoxville) finished with 24 saves for the win on Saturday while Bishop's fired 19 shots of their own.
