Gaiter Bellows - Year 3: Not the easiest of years

Covid, covid and more covid!

Argentina had the longest quarantine in the world (literally).

I wanted to play, practice, and enjoy my 20s but my flight back to Canada got delayed more than five times. I finally got a flight booked for the end of August.

My family and I were at the airport with all my stuff. It was time to go, but... the flight was canceled. No email, no warning, no anything.

At the time, there was still some hope that there may have been a varsity season so I called the coach and told him that I couldn't get a flight for another couple of weeks. Once I arrived in Canada, I had to do my quarantine and ended up completing it in an RV - 14 days. It was one of the most memorable experiences of my life.

After that, I was able to attend some classes, practice and lift, which was a bit of a return to normal life.

But... cases started to rise and we were classified as a ‘red zone’ by the holidays. For the first time, I stayed here in Canada for the winter break and experienced the first cold Christmas of my life.

Days continued to pass and things became more challenging considering I couldn't do anything but workout at home.

The one happy moment of that time was being named the FAEQ Female Athlete of the Year in a team sport. That was a little light in all the darkness.

January came but the RSEQ announced that the year's basketball season had been canceled. What was next for me when everything was closed, classes were fully online, and I was not able to see any of my friends?

I started to look at how things back home in Argentina were going and saw that the league I played in during the summer was starting early at the beginning of February so I made the decision to head back. HERE I COME!

Thankfully, my whole team, the coaching staff and administration at Bishop's understood that it was really hard for me to stay in Canada and that I would be happier playing back home while staying connected to my team here. Being in a place where I was able to play, practice, and be with my loved ones was what I needed at the time!

February came, and I went home where I stayed until August... I had so many expectations for my third year but COVID prevented them all from happening.

Onto Year 4.
