Box Score OTTAWA – Bishop's Gaiters sophomore
Justine Turcotte (Drummondville, QC/John Abbott College) led the Bishop's Gaiters with a pair of goals and an assist as they beat the Carleton Ravens 7-4 on Friday night in the Nation's Capital to open their 2023-24 RSEQ campaign.
The win was the first for head coach
Valerie Bois at the U SPORTS level in her first game as bench boss.
Neleh Vigneau Sargeant (Lake Loon, NS/Lockview H.S.) also tallied three points, all assists while four Gaiters each recorded two points and five others found the scoresheet.
Charley Wing (Huntsville, ON/Mother Teresa C.S.S.) made 25 saves for the victory.
Carleton had four different goal scorers.
The Ravens scored the first goal late in the first period, but Bishop's responded less than a minute later when Maude Pepin tied the game at 1 heading into the first intermission.
Bishop's scored three straight in the second stanza but a late Ravens goal kept them within striking distance.
The hosts added another to open the third period and cut the Gaiters' lead to one. That was short-lived. Turcotte netted what turned out to be the game-winner on the power play at the 7:26 mark of the frame. She scored her second just over six minutes later to give Bishop's a 6-3 lead. Each team added one more to make the final 7-4.
The Gaiters are back on the ice next Saturday, Oct. 21 when they host Concordia at 7 p.m. for their home opener in the Jane & Eric Molson Arena.
