Gaiters shutout Stingers in Sunday Showdown

LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Rookie sensation Teagan Handley (Kingsville, ON/Kingsville District High School) scored her first goal as a Bishop's Gaiter on a beautiful turnaround strike from distance and keeper Paige Robert (Ottawa, ON/St. Peter Catholic High School) earned her first shutout in her first start as the Gaiters topped the Concordia Stingers 2-0 on Sunday on Coulter Field.

The Gaiters sustained pressure paid off late in the first half when senior Penelpoe Cabana's strike from just outside the 18-yard box was stopped but the rebound deflected in off a Stingers defender to give Bishop's a 1-0 lead.

The hosts maintained pressure throughout the second stanza and Handley who was the Gaiters best player on the day was rewarded with a beautiful strike in the 84th minute for her first goal in purple and silver.  She was named game MVP, her fifth selection in 12 games.

Between the pipes for Bishop's was Robert who got her first career start and took full advantage.  She made 8 saves and earned the clean sheet.

Bishop's improves to 3-7-2 on the season while Concordia falls to 2-7-4. Both squads will miss the RSEQ playoffs with one weekend remaining.

The Gaiters will host their final two games.  UQTR is in Lennoxville on Friday at 7 p.m. while Laval comes to Coulter Field on Sunday at 4 p.m. when the Gaiters will celebrate senior's day.
