LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Reigning Bishop's University Male Athlete of the Year
Kyle Corrigan (Ottawa, ON/St. Paul H.S.) electrified the Coulter Field crowd early in the second half. He ran through and past the Concordia defenders on a massive line break that gave the Gaiters their first try of the game on a dreary Lennoxville Sunday.
Although Concordia responded, Bishop's held the momentum and scored 24 second half points enroute to a 27-12 victory over the Stingers to open the RSEQ Men's Rugby season.
Corrigan's dash started it, and the feet of
Axel Montgomery (Toronto, ON/Shawnigan Lake School) and Benjamin Rea finished it off. Montgomery connected on a 40-plus yard drop-kick and Rea added a penalty to go along with three successful conversions, a pair of them from difficult angles.
Brenan Priest (Hemmingford, QC/John Abbott College) and Ewan Lawton were the other try scorers for Bishop's who now sit at 1-0 while Concordia falls to 0-1.
Bishop's is back on the pitch on Sunday, Sept. 24 when the travel to Ottawa to face the Carleton Ravens (0-1).
