LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Women's hockey phenom Gabrielle Santerre (Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC/Champlain-Lennoxville) once again made history, this time at the institutional level when she was named Bishop's University's Female Athlete of the Year and Female Freshman of the Year. She was joined by golfer Ryan Massicotte (Quebec City, QC/Cegep Champlain St. Lawrence) who was named Male Athlete of the Year as headliners of the evening that took place in Centennial Theater.

Santerre is the first Gaiter to win both Freshman and Athlete of the Year in the same season dating back to the inception of the first-year award in 1997. She led the country in scoring and won both Rookie and Player of the Year awards at the RSEQ and U SPORTS level.
Massicotte, a senior from Quebec City led the Gaiters to the RSEQ Championship, their first in 30 years. It also ended 20 consecutive titles by the Laval Rouge et Or. He was the conference's individual silver medalist and fired a final-day two-under 70 at Club de Golf Levis to anchor the Gaiters to the victory.
The other major award winners included Faye Scott who took home the Ray Almond Award for someone who goes above and beyond to offer an invaluable service to Gaiter Athletics. Scott, the department's secretary is slated to retire in December and does so much more than her title suggests.
Mikael Pattin (Mandeville, QC/CEGEP de Levis) from football was the Male Freshman of the Year. He was named AUS Rookie of the Year and an AUS All-Star. The offensive lineman helped lead the Gaiters in rushing yards this season.
The Student-Athlete Leadership Award winners were Regan Simpson (Oakville, ON/St. Thomas Aquinas C.S.S.) from the women's soccer team and Rene Zeevat (Merksplas, Belgium/Sackville High School) from Football. The two student-athletes contributed countless hours to serve their teams and the Bishop's community. Zeevat ran the Gaiters football account and became known for his video work, often volunteering, outside of playing for the Gaiters. Simpson was a co-chair of motionball among several other initiatives. Both were at one time members of the Student-Athlete Leadership Council.
Cammy-M Bernier (Nicolet/) and Charles Robert (Vaudreuil, QC/Suffield Academy) are the Academic Student-Athlete of the Year. Both balance time competing for the Gaiters with excellent classroom performances. Bernier is a second-year Education student and member of the women's rugby team. Robert wins the award for the second consecutive year and is in his third at Bishop's. He's a mathematics major and member of the men's basketball team.

LENNOXVILLE, Qué. – La phénomène du hockey féminin,
Gabrielle Santerre (Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC/Champlain-Lennoxville), a une fois de plus fait l'histoire, cette fois au niveau institutionnel lorsqu'elle a été nommée Athlète féminine de l'année et Nouvelle athlète de l'année de l'Université Bishop's. Elle était accompagnée du golfeur
Ryan Massicotte (Quebec City, QC/Cegep Champlain St. Lawrence), nommé Athlète masculin de l'année, en tête d'affiche de la soirée qui s'est déroulée au Théâtre Centennial.
Santerre est la première Gaiter à remporter à la fois le titre de Nouvelle athlète et d'Athlète de l'année au cours de la même saison, remontant à la création du prix de la première année en 1997. Elle a été en tête du pays avec 45 points marqués et a remporté à la fois les prix de Recrue de l'année et de Joueuse de l'année au niveau du RSEQ et du U SPORTS.
Massicotte, un senior de Québec, a mené les Gaiters au championnat du RSEQ, leur premier en 30 ans. Cela a également mis fin à 20 titres consécutifs des Rouge et Or de Laval. Il a remporté la médaille d'argent individuelle de la conférence et a réalisé un score de 70 le dernier jour au Club de Golf Levis pour ancrer les Gaiters à la victoire.
Les autres principaux lauréats comprenaient Faye Scott, qui a remporté le Prix Ray Almond pour son service inestimable aux activités sportives des Gaiters. Scott, secrétaire du département, va prendre sa retraite en décembre et fait bien plus que son titre ne le suggère.

Les lauréats du Prix du leadership étudiant-athlète étaient

Les deux étudiants-athlètes ont consacré d'innombrables heures au service de leurs équipes et de la communauté de l'Université Bishop's. Zeevat gérait le compte Instagram de football des Gaiters et s'est fait connaître pour son travail vidéo, souvent bénévole, en dehors de jouer pour les Gaiters. Simpson a été co-présidente de motionball parmi plusieurs autres initiatives. Tous deux ont été membres du Conseil de leadership étudiant-athlète à un moment donné.

Il est majeur en mathématiques et membre de l'équipe de basketball masculin.
