CALGARY, Alta. – March 6, 2026 - The Bishop's Gaiters are headed to the U SPORTS Men's Basketball Championship semifinals after a commanding 98–85 victory over the Acadia Axemen in Quarterfinal #4 on Friday night at the Jack Simpson Gym. The win marks Bishop's first national tournament victory since 1999, a milestone moment for the program as it continues its resurgence on the national stage.
 
Bishop's entered the Final 8 as the No. 5 seed following a strong 23–4 campaign and an at-large berth into the championship. Their opening-round matchup against AUS-champion Acadia (No. 4 seed) offered a marquee test - and the Gaiters delivered from start to finish.
 
Robert Makes History With 30-Point Performance
On a night filled with memorable moments, none stood out more than Charles Robert's (Vaudreuil-Dorion, QC/Suffield Academy) spectacular 30-point performance, the highest single-game scoring total by a Bishop's player in U SPORTS national championship history. Robert shot 11-for-16 from the field, added nine rebounds, and was the engine behind the Gaiters' offensive rhythm throughout the game.
 
Dominance on the Boards and Bench Impact
Bishop's overpowered Acadia on the glass, winning the rebounding battle 57–42 and turning those extra possessions into 32 second-chance points. Etienne Gagnon's 16 points and 14 rebounds anchored that effort, while Tiernan McDougall (Vancouver, BC/Champlain College Lennoxville) added 14 points - all from beyond the arc - to help the Gaiters' bench outscore Acadia's reserves 25–18.
 
Complete Control From Start to Finish
The Gaiters never trailed, opening the game with sustained defensive pressure and efficient perimeter shooting. Bishop's carried a 27–20 lead out of the first quarter, extended it to 58–43 at halftime, and withstood several third-quarter pushes from the Axemen before pulling away for good in the fourth.
 
Acadia received 24-point efforts from both Ryan Regault and Robbie Grant, but the Gaiters' advantages in tempo, rebounding, and overall depth proved too much for the Axemen to overcome.
