The Robson Rugby Fund

The Bishop’s University Foundation announces the establishment of the
Robson Rugby Fund in support of men’s Gaiter Rugby at Bishop’s University. Through the initiative of Professor Bill Robson and Professor Lissa McRae, along with their $ 40 000 commitment and a generous $ 20 000 contribution from Roger Hardy ’93, the fund was launched in May 2016.
Effective May 2016, the
Robson Rugby Fund will provide direct funding for the Men’s Rugby Program in the area of greatest need such as coaching, scholarships and bursaries, travel, uniforms, equipment and communication or as determined by the trustees of the fund. The Robson Rugby Fund Trustees are responsible for deciding priorities for disbursements from the fund, to ensure financial transparency, and to respond to donor inquiries. The group of eight trustees is comprised of Bill Robson, Lissa McRae, two coaches (Rugby A Team & Rugby B Team), the Captain of the Rugby A Team, a Bishop’s alumnus of Gaiter Rugby, a representative of the Athletics department, and a local community member. They have authority for the management of and annual reporting on the fund to donors and the Bishop’s community.
The
Robson Rugby Fund will be supported on an ongoing basis through donations from alumni and friends of the University and more specifically through monies receipted from the annual solicitation of former Gaiter rugby players and student-athletes at Bishop’s.
Professor Bill Robson is recognized as the founder of the rugby program in place at Bishop’s today. Throughout his 33 year teaching career both Bill and his wife Professor Lissa McRae were mentors and friends to hundreds of Bishop’s student-athletes and their lifelong dedication to the promotion of the game has resulted in the prominence of the Rugby Program on campus today.
