Bishop's Summer Day Camp

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

For ten years, the Department of Athletics and Recreation has been the delegated organization of the Ville de Sherbrooke Day Camp in the borough of Lennoxville. While tailored towards English-speaking children, the Bishop’s Day Camp is one of the only bilingual day camps in Quebec! Operating on the Bishop's University campus, each day, children have to opportunity to participate in cooperative games, crafts, swimming, science, theatre, sports, and cultural activities – all this means fun and MORE FUN!

REGISTRATION 2025

Registration will open on April 5th (9 AM). Returning campers may register on April 4th (9 AM). Due to how quickly places fill up, in order to simplify the registration process, families will only be able to register for the day camp on this date. ALL OTHER PROGRAMS (EXTENDED DAY CARE, SWIM LESSONS, FIELD TRIPS, ETC.) WILL OPEN FOR REGISTRATION ON JUNE 1ST.

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES

Your child will be invited to participate in special activities over the summer in addition to the normal day camp activities. Some of the special activities take place on-site while others involve travel by bus. These special activities come at an additional cost. During these outings, a day care service will be available on campus for those not wishing to participate. A schedule of activities and their costs will be provided prior to the start of the camp.

ADDITIONAL WEEKLY CAMP PROGRAMS

In addition to the “regular” day camp, the Bishop's Day Camp also offer special weekly programs. These “add-ons” are sometimes based on the entire week or a certain period during the day. Many of these programs are led by current Gaiter Varsity Athletes and Coaches, Faculty and Staff members from the University. All programs are offered in a bilingual setting unless otherwise indicated. To learn more about these programs, please visit the registration portal.

HEALTH AND SAFETY
Our number one priority is always the children’s health and safety. We take great pride in knowing that every child who attends the Bishop’s Day Camp, leaves an emotionally and physically stronger person. Our staff members are all first-aid certified, and our Security Department staff are first responders. In addition to the great staff on hand, our building is equipped with multiple AED’s, first-aid kits and logs. Our Animators and support staffs are vigilant in ensuring each child makes their way home safely through our safe check-out procedure.
STAFF
The Bishop’s Day Camp provides low animator to child ratios to ensure each child receives individual attention. All Day Camp Animators are DAFA certified and hold valid First Aid CPR & AED certification cards. In addition to the Animators – Facility Supervisors and Campus Security are readily available for any need of assistance. We are very fortunate for the amount of students attending Bishop’s University and Champlain College. Many of our animators are currently studying in the School of Education or Special Care Counselling program on campus. Today’s leaders preparing tomorrows.
LOCATION
All activities take place (unless otherwise indicated) in the John H. Price Sports Centre on Bishop’s University campus. We are privileged to have two double gymnasiums, two pools, two state-of-the-art classrooms, lounges, terrace, art rooms, fields (grass and turf), dance studios and so much more to use during the Day Camp! In addition to the Sports Centre, we take advantage of the beautiful Bishop’s University campus and use spaces like the newly renovated Library for our Big Buddy Reading Program, or Bishop’s Quad for a great game of capture the flag. Last year, our 12-14 age group spent multiple sessions in the Biology Labs learning about DNA.
Why do we need to bring a piece of ID/password to sign my child(ren) out?
The safety and security of the children is priority number one. A piece of ID and/or password ensures that each child gets home safe every night.
What if my child does not need a life jacket?
Children who do not require a life-jacket must pass a swim test in front of the lifeguards. In addition, Camp Animators are in the water and on the pool deck during swim time.
If my child needs a life jacket, do we need to bring our own?
No, the pool has all of the necessary equipment for the camp.
What if I finish work early and come pick up my child(ren)?
We do our best to accommodate these special requests - please email camps@ubishops.ca or call the Head Animators Phone (# TBD).
Is food provided for campers?
We do not provide food. Campers should bring a lunch, two snacks, and a beverage to camp. A refillable water bottle is also required.
Does my child have to be bilingual to attend your camp?
No! Although Lennoxville is predominantly English speaking, we do welcome children from all around Sherbrooke, including Non-Residents. With that said, the Bishop's day camp puts an emphasis on English programming at camp - if ever a child does not understand a ruling or activity, we can always translate in French as all Animators are bilingual.
Bad Weather: What happens on rainy or server heat days?
Camp is held rain or shine. Many fun-filled activities are planned for rainy days. Campers must dress accordingly for the weather with appropriate rain gear. To keep campers safe during extremely hot days, certain activities may be canceled. Campers are consistently encouraged to drink lots of water and will play more water games and activities in the shade.
What does a typical day at camp look like?
Drop-off is 7:30 and 9:00 am, Activities run 9:15 am and 3:30 pm, Pick-up is between 3:30 and 5:00 pm
What if my child misses a camp day?
Not a problem! We understand it's summertime and you may want to spend a Friday with your child(ren) - the camp does not have to be informed of their absence.
What's the best way to reach the camp in case of emergency?
Calling the Head Animators cellphone is the best way to get in contact! Please note we do not have the number for this just yet. This will be provided before the camp begins in June 2024
