Erdman played for Simon Fraser University from 1979-1981 before moving onto the CFL where he won a Grey Cup with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1984. Erdman also played for the Ottawa Roughriders and Edmonton Eskimos. After eight seasons in the CFL he headed overseas to the Glasgow Lions in Europe where he continued to play for five more years. He worked as a player-coach then retired and took the reins of the team in 1996. Following that he spent three years coaching the Scottish Claymores in NFL Europe.
Erdman returned to Canada and enjoyed three stints coaching the UBC Thunderbirds and also spent time on the McGill sideline. He was the linebackers and special teams unit coach for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats from 2002-06 and a receivers coach and special teams assistant with the Toronto Argonauts in 2008.
Most recently Erdman was the head coach of the Vancouver Island Raiders of the Canadian Junior Football League.
