SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters men's lacrosse team will return to the Baggataway Cup for a fourth consecutive year on Nov. 1
st thanks to a convincing 12-4 victory over the Carleton Ravens in the CUFLA East playoff game on Saturday night on Coulter Field.
The Gaiters paced themselves to a 4-0 lead after the first frame and were up 6-0 in the second quarter before the Ravens cut the lead to 6-1 on a man advantage. That was how the score stood at halftime. As was the case in the first frame, the Gaiters did not allow the visitors to score in the third quarter while they found the back of the net five times to grab a convincing 11-1 lead entering the fourth quarter. Carleton won the stanza but Bishop's won the game and punched their ticket to Montreal and the 2013 Baggataway Cup Championships hosted by the reigning champion McGill Redmen.
Bishop's will be the second ranked team out of the East heading into the sudden-death tournament. They will hope to play three games in three days and will begin the road to re-gain their 2011 Championship on Friday, Nov. 1 against the Guelph Gryphons. Guelph is ranked third in the West. That game will take place on Friday, Nov. 1 at 8:30 p.m. at Percival Molson Stadium.
Men's Rugby
The Bishop's Gaiters men's team (1-5, 5 points) suffered their fifth loss of the RSEQ University Rugby season. They fell 16-7 to the Sherbrooke Vert et Or (3-4, 15 points) on Saturday in Sherbrooke. The loss leaves Bishop's two points out of the final playoff spot with two games remaining. They take on the Concordia Stingers (5-1, 21 points) on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. on Coulter Field.
