BISHOP’S GAITERS: TOUGH WEEKEND FOR THE PURPLE AND SILVER

SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters women's soccer team played two games on the weekend hosting the Concordia Stingers on Friday, Oct. 4 and travelling to Montreal to face the UQAM Citadins on Sunday, Oct. 6 in RSEQ University action. They lost the first game 2-1 and fell 4-0 on Sunday to the Citadins. The men's and women's rugby teams were also both in action on Friday night and lost their respective match-ups.
 
The Gaiters women's soccer squad hosted Concordia on Friday evening at Coulter Field. Bishop's scored first, in the 30th minute, through Tiffany Smith (Oshawa, Ont.) who calmly tapped the ball around the keeper and passed it into the empty net, making the score 1-0. The Gaiters were able to hold onto the lead until half thanks to some great saves from goalkeeper Molly Bucholtz (Peterborough, Ont.). The second half was full of exciting back-and-forth play. The Stingers were able to tie the score at 1-1 in the 70th minute off of a corner kick. Concordia pressed the Gaiters' goal as time wound down and was awarded a penalty kick in stoppage time. Frederique Labelle (Montreal) converted the spot kick to make the score 2-1 for Concordia and the ref blew his whistle to end the game shortly after.
 
On Sunday, Bishop's travelled to Montreal and faced the UQAM Citadins at Saputo Stadium.  The Gaiters fell behind early and were not able to recover.  They went onto lose the game 4-0.
 
The Gaiters are next in action on Friday, Oct. 18 at 6:30 p.m. when they travel across town to face the Sherbrooke Vert et Or.
 
Women's Rugby
The Bishop's Gaiters women's rugby team hosted the No. 10-ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday night at Coulter Field. Bishop's was competitive early however were unable to score any points despite pressuring Ottawa in the first 20 minutes.  The Gee-Gees then took over the match and cruised to a 92-0 win.
 
Bishop's will be back in Montreal on Thursday, Oct. 10 when they play the No.3 Concordia Stingers at 7 p.m.
 
Men's Rugby
The Bishop's Gaiters men's rugby squad was on the pitch on Friday night at Concordia.  They were unable to create much offense and fell 10-0. 
 
The Bishop's men's rugby team is back in Montreal on Thursday, Oct. 10 when they face the Montreal Carabins at 6:30 p.m.
