SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Bishop's University men's rugby team will finish their regular season at home against Concordia on Friday night at 7 p.m. while the men's and women's basketball teams will open their RSEQ regular seasons against UQAM on Saturday at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. respectively in Mitchell Gym.
The men's rugby team (1-6) will face the Concordia Stingers (6-1) on Coulter Field on Friday night at 7 p.m. The Gaiters fell to the Stingers 10-0 earlier in the season. They need to win and have the Montreal Carabins (1-6) lose to avoid missing the playoffs.
The men's basketball team will start their regular season against the UQAM Citadins on Saturday at 8 p.m. in Mitchell Gym. The Gaiters went 10-6 last year and UQAM was 6-10. Both the Citadins and Gaiters bowed out to the McGill Redmen in the playoffs. UQAM lost in semi-final and Bishop's in the final.
Bishop's went 3-7 against a tough schedule this pre-season. They played four teams currently in the CIS top-10. Bishop's will lean on 2012-13 team MVP
Scott Ring (Ottawa) and 2012-13 RSEQ Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and second-team all-Canadian
Mike Andrews (Oakville, Ont.) to lead them into this campaign.
The women's basketball team will also begin their regular season against the UQAM Citadins. They tip-off at 6 p.m. in Mitchell Gym on Saturday night. After a 0-16 season in 2012-13 the Lady Gaiters look to improve this year. UQAM went 8-8 last year and lost to Concordia in the RSEQ semi-final. Bishop's was 1-9 in exhibition action but showed progressions as the pre-season moved along.
