CALGARY — The Bishop's Gaiters are 40 minutes away from history. Tonight at 5 p.m. MT inside Jack Simpson Gym, the No. 5–seeded Gaiters square off with the perennial powerhouse No. 6 Carleton Ravens in the U SPORTS Men's Basketball Championship final, marking Bishop's first appearance in the title game since winning its lone national crown in 1998.

Quarterfinal: A Historic Start
The Gaiters opened the tournament with a 98–85 win over Acadia, powered by Charles Robert's (Vaudreuil-Dorion, QC/Suffield Academy) record-breaking 30-point performance, the highest ever by a Bishop's player at nationals. Bishop's dominated the rebounding battle 57–42 and controlled the game wire to wire.
 
Semifinal: Surviving a Thriller
Last night, Bishop's stunned the top-seeded Victoria Vikes 66–65 in a nail-biter that came down to the buzzer.
 
Robert again led the way with 17 points, while Yanis Malanda (Paris, France/Vanier College) and Étienne Gagnon each posted double-doubles as the Gaiters used a huge third quarter to take control. The defense sealed it in the final minute with two clutch stops. [gaiters.ca]
 
The win sent Bishop's to its first national championship game in 28 years.
