GAITERS WOMEN’S SOCCER SUFFER TWO HOME LOSSES

SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters women's soccer team played two home games this week hosting the McGill Martlets on Friday, Sept. 20 and the No. 8 Sherbrooke Vert et Or on Monday, Sept. 23 in RSEQ University action. Bishop's lost both games 6-0.

On Friday afternoon, the Gaiters hosted the Martlets as part of the 2013 homecoming celebrations at Bishop's University. McGill scored in the 18th minute, before doubling their lead four minutes later. Bishop's then took the game to their opponents but were unable to capitalize and headed into the half down 2-0. The Gaiters found themselves down two more goals in the first ten minutes after halftime. Bishop's goalkeeper Molly Bucholtz (Peterborough, Ont.) made many key saves as the game progressed, but was unable to stifle the McGill attack, letting in another two goals before the referee blew the final whistle with the Martlets on top 6-0.

Monday night saw the Gaiters host the No. 8 Sherbrooke Vert et Or under the lights at Coulter Field. Bucholtz again made multiple saves in the first half; none bigger than a diving kick save in the 43rd minute off of a penalty kick. However, Sherbrooke scored twice in the half to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission, a harsh score line for the Gaiters who did well pushing forward. In the second half Sherbrooke pulled away. They found the back of the net four times to win 6-0. RSEQ leading scorer Marie-Eve Jacques (Sherbrooke, Que.) led the way for the Vert et Or with four goals.

"The score was not indicative of how well we played today," said Gaiters head coach Phil Ribaux after Monday's game. "We played well, but they've got a few superstars who we marked, however they still found ways to score."

The Gaiters play at Coulter Field this Friday, Sept. 27 as they host the UQTR Patriotes at 6 p.m. On Sunday, Sept. 29, they will play the Laval Rouge et Or, in Quebec City, kick off is slated for 4 p.m.
