LAX: A PERFECT WEEKEND FOR THE GAITERS

SHERBROOKE, Que. – Two home wins over the weekend helped the Bishop's Gaiters lacrosse crew take possession of second place in CUFLA's East Division with four games remaining in the season. A thrilling overtime victory on Saturday versus Queen's was followed up with a convincing win Sunday against Carleton.

On Saturday evening, three goals each by Alex Henderson (Enniskillen, Ont.) and James Malloy (Uxbridge, Ont.) propelled the Gaiters to a 12-9 overtime victory against Queen's. With the Gaels leading by two goals in the last five minutes of the fourth quarter, the hosts never gave up for a moment. Henderson and Brett Conway (Cornwall, Ont.) scored important goals that pushed the game to extra-time.

The three-goal win by Bishop's helped them secure any tiebreaker they might run into with Queen's.

The next day, the Gaiters squared off against the Carleton Ravens, a team still looking for its first win of the season. Conway and Henderson's second hat-tricks of the weekend, combined with three-goals performances from Ryan Dewar (Cornwall, Ont.) and Simon Winquist (Sherbrooke, Que.) gave Bishop's a convincing 22-7 victory. Cam Bateman (Port Moody, B.C.) and Leigh Kinakin (Port Moody, B.C.) also scored their first goal of the season for the purple and silver.

"Tonight (Sunday), it was a well-played game against Carleton", said Gaiters head coach Rod Engelken. "The guys stepped up and we got a great offensive production in return. The Queen's game was a little bit tighter than we wanted. However, we managed to get an important win".

The next regular season game for the Gaiters will be on October 7 in Montreal, as they will play Concordia at the De Maisonneuve Field at 9 p.m. For news about your Gaiters, go to www.gaiters.ca.
